Take a step into this choreography with the emphasis on technique, placement and timing.  A blend of ballet and jazz create a form of dance, Lyrical, that allows a dancer to express themselves.  With adding a bit of contemporary that is more modern and stylized we will take it to the next level.  Get ready to challenge yourself! Have you been looking at getting back into ballet or have you been looking for a class to really help you catch up on your ballet technique?  This is the camp for you.  We will brush up on all basic and intense ballet technique as well as terminology, body placement and core and ankle strengthening tools.  Don't worry, I will make it a fun learning experience at the same time.  You'll get a little ballet history too! Are you currently in ballet and looking to strengthen and expand your skills?  This workshop will give you all the tools you need to prepare yourself for Pre-Pointe this fall as well as some intense core training.  You must have had at least 2 consecutive years of ballet in the last four years. (ballet shoes required)

We worked our tails off last year and it paid off.  If you are planning on continuing with pointe in the fall this is the workshop that will help give you the tools and skills to continue practicing at home throughout the summer.  This class will also help you advance to be placed in the right class for the fall. (ballet and pointe shoes required)

This camp is a great way to prepare you with everything you need to know before auditioning for a dance team or undergraduate program at any college.  You will learn from our own WMU dance team members as well as retain helpful information from pasts graduates of the WMU dance program.  This information will be helpful for any major college.  We will send you home with new choreography in jazz, contemporary and pom as well as helpful tips to calm your nerves. (jazz shoes required)

Performance Team is a wonderful way to take your dance to the next level!  We have several performance opportunities including performing all over the city as well as Walt Disney World.  We are even preparing for a trip to the annual Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida next January.  We have attended workshops with world famous teachers and we have made life-lasting friendships with our teammates.  If you are currently on the team and would like to continue next year, or if you have been thinking of joining a team, this workshop is for you.  You will learn quick and intense choreography and practice mock auditions.  This workshop will give you the tools you need to join the team!  This workshop will help us place you on a team for next year.  Please contact Ms. Katie if you are unable to attend any of these dates so that we may place you on the appropriate team for next year.

We are looking for High School students to train this summer to be an assistant for one of our several classes offered for ages 11 and under.  Even if you have been an assistant before, or if you have attended this workshop in the past, new and helpful information will give you more tools to feel prepared to help your teacher during class.  We will even touch on how to prepare lesson plans this year as well as costuming and choreography.  You will learn all the fun pre-school songs, warm-ups, how to deal with emergency situations and how to handle a class if the teacher needs to step out.  At the end of the week we will take a visit to the WMU dance department as well as tour the campus.  This will be a great time to discuss how to further your career in dancing or just continue dancing and doing what you love through college level courses.  Who knows, maybe one day you will want to teach at Excel!  (ballet and jazz shoes required)

Open Gym will be offered this summer for one hour increments during the week nights.  Take this time at Open Gym to practice your tumbling skills and take them to the next level.  This is also the time to focus on that trick you have been trying to master this year as well as get some helpful tips from our trained instructors.  Schedules will soon be posted with days, times and ages.  We will post them at the studio as well as on our website.
